Big Bass Bonanza

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

Big Bass Bonanza is one of those games you open for two minutes and look up half an hour later. The whole thing runs around a cheerful underwater scene where you tap and watch things line up across the reels. It's simple to grasp — one thumb does everything — but the pacing keeps you leaning in a little more than you'd expect from something this relaxed.

What surprised me was the sound design. The little splash effects and the upbeat loop give every session a rhythm, and the fisherman character popping up now and then adds a bit of personality. The animation is smooth even on my older test phone, which isn't a given for games this colourful.

It's not deep, and it doesn't pretend to be. But as a game to fill a queue or a train ride, it does exactly what it sets out to do and looks great while doing it.
